Shred Yeah Girls Surf Club - Tuesdays @ 4.45pm
Summer after school sessions!
Ages 10 - 16 years (just a guide - DM if younger/older)
Focussing on the Arts of Fun for girls SHRED YEAH Surf Club will run for five weeks during summer school term. The sessions will provide a supportive environment for our young people to flourish, build confidence in the sea, meet friends and slide sideways. Importantly these sessions are for young people that have tried surfing before and have some level of existing confidence in the water.
The format will be less of a ‘lesson’ style and more of a ‘coaching/mentoring’ and ‘peer teaching’ club style. This has been created in response to a need to get our girls out in the sea and building confidence and independence.
Level 2 ASI coach Sally McGee will be there for the sessions with support from Tom Bing and Billy Bing creating a nurturing and fun environment for the attendees to feel supported.
Wetsuits and boards: We have been building a small library of boards from foamies to soft tops and a small range of fibreglass boards that the girls can use during the sessions I order to explore options.
We do have suits but if you have your own please do use/bring them.
Why surf?
Surfing is just one of the amazing non competitive activities that allows participants to express their individuality and be active on their own terms. The positive impact both physically and mentally is far reaching providing an excellent way to access our natural environment and all its benefits.
When will the sessions run?
There will be sessions running every Tuesday evening during the summer term. starting on June 10th.
June 10th
June 17th
June 24th
July 1st
July 8th
Your young person can book onto one, two etc. or all of the sessions.
Please be aware that conditions in the North Sea vary and there may be flat days, messy days, bigger days etc. The aim of these sessions is to understand the sea and go out whatever. If the sea however is unsafe we will opt to skateboard. We have everything a young person would need for this too and have Tom Bing who is a qualified GB skateboard coach.
Location: Tynemouth Longsands South End - meet at the Yonder van - location to be provided.
Time: 4.45pm - 6.15pm
Duration: 1.5 hours in total
Important disclaimer - Once you have booked on there is no refunds unless you are able to give us 7 days notice so that we can have time to readvertise and find a replacement. It takes a lot to promote and advertise and for people to make space ahead of time in their diaries so late cancellations are problematic to small family businesses.
Sally McGee will be the surf coach on each session. Sally is a qualified Level 2 ASI Instructor, Ambassador for Finisterre and an SLSGB LifeGuard with years of experience surfing in the North Sea, this is a great opportunity to learn to surf with a passionate and experienced instructor.
