What do we provide?
We provide everything you need to surf and build ocean confidence. We have a wide selection of high quality boards including foams, soft tops and fibreglass boards when appropriate. We have the highest quality warm women’s wetsuits, boots, gloves & hoods.
Our session sizes are small to ensure everyone attending gets the attention and support necessary to progress at their own individual pace.
Who are they for?
These sessions are aimed at absolute beginners and those who have perhaps had lessons before (with Yonder or elsewhere) but are still wanting to work on the basics and build confidence in the sea. These sessions are aimed at building friendships and confidence and providing a more regular option for those not able to be as adaptable due to work/family/travel commitments. Women who have attended these sessions have formed friendships and gained skills that have helped them to become confident and independent surfers and water users allowing them to continue their surf journey feeling empowered with a potential support network. You may not necessarily require the support network but you have the option to opt into it.

What will we cover?
We will cover the fundamentals of surfing, touch on surf forecasting each session, develop effective paddle skills, how to spot and catch the right waves and work on individual pop ups with a real focus on timing, technique and learning to understand how to handle your equipment in a range of conditions. The sessions are all designed as a way to understand the surf better, stay safe in the water, build an awareness of surf culture, understand your equipment and maintain the fundamental passion that keeps us going back!
For these sessions we will mainly stay in the white water unless the surf is small and appropriate for green waves.
Our aim is to help you become a more independent and confident surfer so a chance to ask all the questions, try a range of boards in a safe and supportive environment with like minded women.
Each surfer is always individually supported in their surf journey. Just message me (Sal) if you’re not sure.
There is the possibility of a surf skate session if the conditions would make it more beneficial one week, we will play that by ear and bring Tom in as our certified skateboard coach. We have all the equipment for this and it has proved highly popular and unbelievably beneficial to participants when considering balance, stance and surf concepts as well as being a lot of fun!
What happens if the surf is flat or unsafe?
Due to the very nature of unpredictable conditions we may not always have swell. In this circumstance we will run paddle technique sessions if safe to do so. If we have dangerous conditions we may instead do a land based theory sessions on surf concept, ocean safety or surf forecasting. There is also the option to skate (see above.) Please be advised that the conditions will not always be perfect but we will need them to be safe. These sessions are intended to ‘go out whatever the conditions,' a way of understanding our sea better which is often the reality of the North Sea but if we have unfavourable winds I may also try and rearrange for another date during that week so please be aware of this when booking. Flat sessions are recognised as important in our surf journey as it is often during these sessions that we grasp board control and paddle techniques. If we have more than two days as above we will together rearrange a sessions that works for everyone.
What does our community say about us?
“Have just completed the 5 week surf club with Sally and absolutely loved it! Sally is by far the best surf teacher I’ve had, she is so knowledgeable and passionate about surfing it’s impossible not to enjoy yourself! Sally doesn’t just focus on getting you to pop up on the waves-she teaches you to read waves, understand surf forecasts, surf technique and etiquette all of which build your confidence and help you to become a safe and independent surfer. If you’re considering trying surfing or want to build/improve your existing your surf skills book in with Yonder you won’t regret it!” Laura
“Sally is genuinely inspirational - not just as an incredibly knowledgeable and engaged teacher with years of experience and passion, but also as someone who brings perspective and values into what she does. Her lessons go beyond surfing; they’re a reminder of what really matters. Thank you, Sally.” Paulina
