Girls Can't Surf Panel - Leah Tokelove

Leah Tokelove is another woman who’s been doing it since she was a young’un. Not surfing this time however, but racing flat track. She started her racing career really young racing on Mablethorpe Beach in the winter race series and has progressed through the ranks with an organisation called the DTRA (Dirt Track Riders Association) until she was riding in the Pro Class and the Hooligan Class. Picking up support from Indian Motorcycles, Alpine Stars, Bell Helmets and more along the way.

Leah practicing at Greenfield Dirt Track - home to her Days On the Dirt female motorcycle training courses.

Flat Track racing has never had a gender split - Leah has been racing against mostly male competitors the whole time she has been racing. We thought her perspective would be really valuable with regards to the subject matter of the film. Insight into different approaches, attitudes and experiences in competitive action sports are really useful to us. Leah has trained and supported countless other women to ride and race flat track too. She is internationally renowned for her achievements in the sport.

Leah can surf as well as ride 1200cc motorcycles round tracks; she came to Morocco with us in 2019 and has surfed in the UK lots too - we can’t wait for her insight.

Girls Can’t Surf is playing to an audience of 260 at the Tyneside Cinema on Sept 16th with a Panel hosted by Sally McGee from Yonder featuring Leah Tokelove, Emma Tweddle and Alethea Mountford.
