Yonder x Hannah Eddy Collection

We get a lot of emails and Instagram messages from cookie cutter design accounts that have reams of stock illustrations that feel strangely familiar…They offer designs for a small fee where you drop in your brand name and they’re yours to use on a T-shirt. The themes are generic, often imitations or even direct copies, the artwork isn’t exclusive and there would be no creative relationship between us and the artists, it is literally ‘off the shelf’ artwork and we see a lot of it.

We’ve never used them and we don’t plan on it. Artwork and relationships are important to us. We brief artists and illustrators that we love on our ideas and our brand ethos and let them loose creatively.

There are a few recurring things within our briefs to artists…

No palm trees
We love a palm tree as much as we love a tropical surf trip but Yonder has its roots firmly in the North Sea. We founded Yonder out of a desire to see a shift in the image of female surfing; to be an agent of change in whatever way we can. Yonder is about our experience of surfing which doesn't often involve palm trees and we want that to be reflected in our brands artwork.

Women represented in wetsuits
Again, we love a bikini surf, but that isn’t our reality either most of the time. Our reality is wetsuits and that is the way we want to portray our image of surfing. We spend twelve months of the year at home surfing in a wetsuit and that is something we like to reflect with our artwork where possible.

Nature
We love it! We love being in the outdoors, we love being in the wilderness, out there with the seals, the birds, the flora and fauna of our ocean environment. That’s why we have recurring themes of nature in the work we commission, the Fulmar, water, seaweed and sun and moon can be found across the work commissioned by Fried Cactus Studio, Cai & Jo, Pedro Oyarbide, Paul Devine and now Hannah Eddy.

Our artists are true creatives, they interpret our ideas and blend them with their vision and experiences and create truly unique, one off pieces of artwork that are exclusive to Yonder. It’s not the cheapest way of designing and producing products, but Yonder is about our vision of surfing and what we want to wear and see. It’s amazing to have a platform to be able to commission artists like Hannah Eddy to create work that reflects our community and vision.

This new design is a very special one to us. We reached out to and connected with one of our favourite artists to create this work. Reno, Nevada based Hannah Eddy is a world renowned artist and her work resonates deeply with us. It’s positive, wild, loose in theme but tight in finish. The themes and messages are important to us, positivity and human harmony with nature. Hannah’s colour palette is wild, the T-shirt’s are a four colour print and we have paired it with some pastels we loved as well as a raw cotton - it screams positivity as an image.

£2.50 from every T-shirt sale goes into the Yonder Surf Academy CIC. In 2022 we are proud to be working alongside the Peoples Postcode Lottery and other funding bodies to offer free or heavily subsidised surf lessons to marginalised groups within our community. Your donation helps us to continue to work in small groups to provide a safe and supportive experience.

Hannah Eddy is an artist based in Reno, NV best known for her colorful, bold, and imaginative psychedelic-pop aesthetic.

Her art encourages positivity and balance in life, and an appreciation for nature, connection, and community. She is influenced by the expressive graphic style and free-thinking approach of the skateboard/snowboard/surf culture that she grew up immersed in.

Through her paintings, illustrations, and murals she aims to help inspire her fellow humans to pick up a board, hop on a bike, feel the wind, laugh at stuff, appreciate the funkiness in nature, or to just give a hoot about each other and our planet.

Hannah combines her love of illustration, design, painting, and murals with a diverse list of clients and collaborators.
