All food and accommodation provided - two nights accommodation.

We will be staying in a beautiful house in the centre of Scarborough just a small walk from North Bay.

“I can’t recommend Sally and Yonder enough—just back from one of the camps as an absolute beginner, and I learned so much! Sally is so patient and really takes the time to explain everything—she’s super encouraging and even as a beginner, I felt like she was taking me really seriously. Most important though, I just had so much fun! The camp was amazing—they had given so much thought to every little detail. I can’t wait to have more lessons with Sally again soon!” Dorothy

This camp is for absolute beginners/beginner plus so also for those who have surfed before but are wanting to build on their experience in a supportive environment. The teaching is super focussed on each individual in order to ensure progression for everyone.

See ability levels here.

The camp will be limited to six spaces in order to ensure maximum input for each guest.

Scarborough is a place we hold very dear as it is where both Tom and I learnt to surf. There are a number of beaches in the area to choose from depending on conditions and it's a great place to start your surfing journey. It's also probably a lot closer by train than you think with great train links.

We will take guests to the best break on each day and provide tuition and feedback in order to get everyone feeling confident in the water and flourishing as a surfer. The camp will be a great opportunity to surf with like-minded women in a safe and supportive environment.

No experience is necessary, we will be starting from the beginning with Swell foam boards and progressing at everybody’s own pace. With the small group sizes, tuition is personalised to match everybody’s confidence and ability levels. If you have had lessons before and would like to try one of our Yonder hard boards for the first time or bring your own along then this camp is also perfect for you.

Lessons will focus on how to paddle for and catch your own waves, how to ‘pop up’ and stand on a surfboard, learning about the ocean and building ocean confidence, surf forecasting and surf safety. If you are already confident in these areas the camps can also help you to start to pop up and go down the line in trim but you may also want to look at our improver camp as an option. We have excellent resources to help you in a wide range of areas.

Guests arrive at the camp Wednesday morning ready for their first surf lesson. After the first session and some lunch we will make our way to the house.

We provide -

  • All meals for the Wednesday and Thursday with breakfast on the Friday. Expect hearty home cooked vegetarian food, nothing fancy, just good and wholesome.

  • All equipment if needed including access to foamies/soft tops & fibreglass boards - you can also bring your own of course.

  • Two x two hour surf sessions on the Wednesday & Thursday with a supervised/supported surf session on Friday morning. There is always the potential for this to turn into one bigger surf session if the tides/wind/conditions dictate.

  • Surf forecasting and catching green wave theory tips on an evening

  • Photo & video feedback sessions - absolutely essential to help build confidence and improve. We are really lucky to have the talented Tom Bing on board to document the weekend and help give specific feedback about your surfing.

  • Surf Skate coaching by qualified and experienced skateboarder Tom Bing. This is optional as some may not want to join in however it has proven to be a fantastic tool for understanding surf concepts & improving your surfing confidence.

  • Surf Theory, concepts, culture and equipment discussions will take place throughout the camp

  • Surf movie night

  • Beautiful photos for you to keep at no extra cost

  • Yonder & Finisterre goodie bag!

All lessons are taught by Finisterre Ambassador Sally McGee, experienced surfer and ASI Accredited surf coach

Prior to all camps we set up a group WhatsApp so that girls can talk and discuss your own travel plans on how to arrive. Girls have often shared lifts to the camp through this and the group remains open after the camp.

You provide:

We provide a complimentary drink on the first evening but guests are welcome to bring their own alcohol and any snacks they will want for the trip.

Transport to the surf: We are unable to provide transport to the surf due to transport capacity, we can all walk to North Bay but we may need to drive to other beaches. In the past girls have teamed up to do this, each beach is a very short distance - 5 minute drives.

  • Important Disclaimer - Unfortunately, due to the very nature dependent reality of surfing we cannot necessarily guarantee good surf conditions. We always run our camps in areas that are more consistent and during the more consistent swell months in order to increase the potential for good conditions. If the surf is flat we will explore the coastline, run paddle sessions and workshops with the option of a sea swim (gentle sea swim!) at Flamborough head!

  • Deposit disclaimer: Deposits paid can not be refunded. It takes a lot of administration to organise the camps, a lot of time and energy with limited availability so if you’re booking it is important to know that the deposit will not be refunded. Once you have paid in full we will only be able to refund the remainder (not the deposit) if we are informed in enough time to secure a replacement, no later that one month before the camp and only if we can get a replacement.
