2023 Log Lab - June 15th & 16th

(£195 without board hire & £205 with board hire)

We are really excited to announce the return of our summer Introduction to longboarding workshops! Join us for two immersive days in June for all things logging.

The location will be in North Yorkshire, within 40 mins of Whitby (to be confirmed closer to the time dependent on the forecast but we have a few great options).

Expect good vibes, inspiring and supportive likeminded ladies, good veggie food and two days of on-tap advice and support.

Is this for me?

If you can make it out back on smaller days, catch green waves and ride left and right down the line - then this is for you. You do not have to have had previous longboard experience, this course is exacty for that. If you have your own longboard, awesome! If not, we have included longboard rental with three of the tickets. There are 5 spaces, one instructor in the water and Tom on hand with photo and video so we are able to really cover individual needs and abilities over the course of the weekend.

What is covered?

The two-day course will be focussed on learning about Longboarding and longboard techniques both in and out of the water.

We will explore -

  • Theory (on land using Yonder’s own resources)

  • Equipment (Longboards and types of fins)

  • Specific longboard paddle technique

  • Positioning on the board whilst paddling into and catching waves

  • Getting beyond the whitewater to the green waves with a longboard

  • Using and transferring bodyweight in order to control a longboard

  • Transferring weight forwards and backwards smoothly by cross stepping

  • Maintaining poise, control and style surfing a longboard and starting to turn the board using the rails and single fin

  • Maintaining trim and positioning within the wave to start to nose ride

  • Photography and Video Analysis

As with all our lessons, workshops and camps we will also cover the importance of staying safe in the sea and surf etiquette in order to build and instil a confidence in yourself as a surfer. We will also share some inspiring films and clips of surfing to aim for from our favourite loggers.

Both days will include plenty of hands on time in the water as well as some land based theory and a little screen-based learning, analysis and feedback. Lunch, drinks and snacks will be provided on both days. Maximum of five women in a group. Wetsuits are available to borrow at no extra cost.

Tom will be on hand for both days providing photo & video analysis, feedback, guidance and support to help you to accelerate your future longboarding journey.

    Accommodation & Food

These Log Labs require you to find your own accommodation, some of the guests last year booked onto a campsite, some brought vans and others stayed in B&B’s, also open of course to anyone who lives nearby. We can share more information with you if needed.

NB: Last year we made use of all daylight, following the charts to find the best conditions, please note that this could be early morning or late evening sessions so keep your two days free!

Lunch will be provided on each day with snacks and water available - we will have the Yonder van as a base to make hot drinks, store keys and clothes etc.

Yonder is a family run business, expect good vibes, hearty veggie food and a lovely trip with like minded ladies. Advice, coaching and pointers from Sally and Tom will be provided across the two days with any questions answered and advice given.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch on info@surfyonder.com.

    • Important Disclaimer - Unfortunately, due to the very nature dependent reality of surfing we cannot necessarily guarantee good surf conditions. We always run our camps in areas that are more consistent and during appropriate average swell months in order to increase the potential for good conditions. If the surf is totally flat we will still explore all of the theory, explore surf forecasting as well as still getting in the water to practice paddle technique and develop as many log skills as possible. The location is being kept flexible to make the most of whatever conditions we are presented with on the dates but the location will be around 40 mins north or south of Whitby at most.

    • Deposit disclaimer: Deposits paid can not be refunded. It takes a lot of administration to organise the camps, a lot of time and energy with limited availability so if you’re booking it is important to know that you can definitely make it and that the deposit will not be refunded. Once you have paid in full we will only be able to refund the remainder (not the deposit) if we are informed in enough time to secure a replacement, no later that six weeks before the camp and only if we can get a replacement.
