Essential Viewing - Inspiring Female Skateboard Parts
We thought we’d compile some essential viewing into a blog post, some women to watch to get inspired by, to show your daughters, your sons, your parents, your colleagues. Skateboarding is awesome and the culture that surrounds it is strong. A skate ‘part’ is a curated showcase of someone's skateboarding from that period of time; often a part might take months or even years to film and the clips included are kept off social media until the part is out, even then, often the ‘ender’ or last trick will stay off social media until everyone has had a chance to see the part. It’s the skaters version of an album; these are a few we’ve had on repeat in our house.
Get inspired!
First up we have Lady Meek for Independent Trucks…
Next up we have one of skateboardings most charismatic characters and true inspiration Nora Vasconcellos for OJ Wheels. It’s worth delving into a bit more of Nora’s back catalogue to get to know her a bit better, she’s great.
Next we have Mariah Duran, Mariah brings a different vibe to Lady and Nora in this Thrasher part, more of a street style. Less ramps, more found obstacles.
Japan’s Mami Tezuka is a transition (skatepark) skater with a lot of style and flair in this part for Blood Wizard. So much style and flair, we love Mami in our house.
Warning, you might want to mute the first 5-10 seconds due to a bit of swearing…
Nicole Hause for REAL Skateboards - again, an early swear you may want to mute. Nicole is a really cool skater, carving out her own path for a long time now.
Bryce Wettstein’s pro debut for Stereo shows Bryce’s flair and character that she is known for. We spent a little time with Bryce in San Diego and she was amazing. Bryce brings a different energy to the big contests she does, even the Olympics.
Shiloh Catori is just fifteen and this clip really shows her process of starting her career for the legendary Toy Machine and wanting to spend more time in the streets. Balancing how to make a career out of what you love is a big one, Shiloh is at the start of that journey but already has a big name in skateboarding.
Cocona Hiraki is another young Japanese skater, just 15 at the time of filming this Monster part. She flows with style and minimal impact, a smooth, carving approach. We love to see it!
Last but not least, Lizzie Armanto’s ONWARD part for Vans. Lizzie is a name that will forever be associated with elevating the role women have played in skateboardings modern era. The first female to have a signature skate shoe on Vans and someone who has been responsible for selling the image of skateboarding and individuality alongside Nora and other contemporary women. Lizzie is a cool character and her skating backs it up.
This list could have been so much longer, this is just an insight. If the list were for female skaters to follow on social media, it might look different, with some amazing British women and girls out there doing great stuff, but we wanted this to be a sit down with your self, your friends, your daughter or son or whoever and sit back and watch some great skateboarding!
